Maidstone United manager George Elokobi on the National League South play-off picture following 8-0 win over Enfield Town
Manager George Elokobi feels there’s all to play for as Maidstone fight for a National League South play-off place.
The Stones were eight points outside the top seven after losing 1-0 at Chippenham a fortnight ago - a third successive defeat.
They’ve clawed that back to three points thanks to 1-1 draws with Chelmsford and Dorking and Tuesday’s 8-0 home rout of Enfield Town, as Riley Court scored his first hat-trick.
Elokobi’s side, who are 11th, have 12 games remaining to land a play-off spot for the third successive season.
They’re off to Salisbury on Saturday (3pm) before hosting fellow contenders Weston on Tuesday (7.45pm).
Their record home league win at the Gallagher Stadium gives Maidstone confidence at a vital stage of the season.
“Collectively, we needed that because we’ve been scoring one goal or coming close and missing chances,” said Elokobi.
“We’ve been creating in the final third and not tucking them away.
“You want to score as many goals as you can, and it was nice to do it at the Gallagher Stadium in front of our home crowd.
“Hopefully that’s going to give everyone the confidence we need in terms of the squad but also it’s important we look at the performance levels.
“They’ve set the standards and we need to stay consistent.
“It’s about making sure we look after one game at a time and take care of our own business before we look elsewhere.
Riley on Stones hat-trick
“We need to stay focused and we need to stay humble.
“There’s 36 points to play for.
“You want to look at the table but you can’t determine what happens in other environments.
“We can only dictate our own performance levels and if we are effective over 90 minutes, defend our box competently and make sure we are ruthless in the opposition
