Maidstone United 3 Eastbourne Borough 0 match report: Goals from Jephte Tanga, Deon Moore and Dajon Golding earn National League South victory
Maidstone continued their resurgence by claiming a first home win in more than two months.
They beat Eastbourne Borough 3-0 at the Gallagher Stadium with goals from Jephte Tanga, Deon Moore and substitute Dajon Golding.
Victory extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to five games, while it was a third win in four National League South games.
Importantly, it was also a first home success in five games since beating Hampton in mid-August, with Maidstone improving all the time.
United were quickly into their stride against a struggling Boro side who last week reappointed Tommy Widdrington as manager.
That meant two ex-Premier League players were in charge of the respective sides, with Widdrington formerly of Southampton, while Stones fans know all about George Elokobi’s history at Wolves.
United, looking to build on their 2-0 weekend win at Farnborough, took the lead in just the 10th minute.
Skipper Sam Corne spread play wide to the dangerous Antony Papadopoulos, whose cross reached John Gilbert - Saturday’s two-goal man - at the back post.
Gilbert resisted any temptation to shoot, instead showing great composure in laying on a tap-in for team-mate Tanga.
George Fowler made a key intervention after Harvey Lintott squared across the face of goal as Eastbourne threatened an instant reply.
But Maidstone doubled their lead in the 18th minute.
Papadopoulos was involved again, collecting Leo Hamblin’s deep centre and sending the ball back across goal for Moore to head in from close range.
Nathan Harness made a comfortable save from Josh Anifowose before ex-Eastbourne man David Sesay hacked off the line at a corner.
