Enfield Town 3 Ebbsfleet United 1 match report: Dominic Samuel scores in National League South defeat
Ebbsfleet produced a disappointing performance as they were well beaten at Enfield Town on Tuesday night.
The Fleet had been looking for back-to-back National League South wins but were unable to cope with the hosts’ style of play in and around their penalty area.
Ebbsfleet made four changes from the side that beat Dorking Wanderers at the weekend with Ronny Nelson, Ben Coker, Toby Edser and Josh Coley all coming into the starting XI.
Tom Dallison headed over inside the first two minutes but it was the hosts who made a flying start with the opener after just five minutes.
A left-wing cross was only half-cleared and Tosh Gallimore had time and space to step forward and arrow an unstoppable right-foot 25-yard shot beyond keeper Gio Bellagambi.
Ebbsfleet had plenty of good possession although they lost Dallison to injury after just 17 minutes, giving Maxx Manktelow the chance to feature in defence alongside Nelson and Mustapha Olagunju.
It was Olagunju who shot over after combining well with Charlie Seaman down the right, the area where the Fleet’s best work seemed to be done with the consistent Ben Chapman again to the fore.
On 21 minutes, Chapman played in Edser, who turned back and saw his left-foot shot from an acute angle kept out by the legs of keeper Rhys Forster.
Enfield doubled their lead three minutes later from a set-piece routine. A short corner was delivered to the far post where Adam Thompson headed the ball back for Lemar Reynolds to nod home.
Ebbsfleet still had chances to get back into the game before half-time but their finishing let them down. Kwesi Appiah beat the offside trap but was denied by Forster.
The best chance came on 32 minutes when Seaman’s delightful right-wing cross saw Appiah and Coley
