M67 motorway to shut this weekend as part of major £23m project

Part of a Greater Manchester motorway will be closed this weekend as a major £23m project takes shape. National Highways is replacing the ageing St Anne's Road bridge, near Denton, with a new structure.

As part of the scheme, the first phase of bridge demolition works will take place this weekend. The M67 will be closed between junctions 1A at Denton and 3 at Hyde as a result, from 9pm on Friday (August 18) to 5am on Monday (August 21).

The bridge, which connects to the A57 south of the motorway, is being replaced in a three-year project that began in January. The structure sits between junctions 1A and 2 of the M67, and is currently closed until work on its replacement is complete.

This weekend's M67 closure will affect drivers heading between Manchester and Sheffield. Drivers heading between Manchester and Snake or Woodhead Pass should follow the signed diversion running north of the M67, between junction 24 of the M60 at Ashton, along the A635 and A6018 past Stalybridge and onto Mottram in Longdendale.

Drivers could also use the M62 between Manchester and Leeds. Diversions will also be in place for local Tameside traffic, with drivers asked to use the A57 instead of the M67.

Live traffic information will be available at trafficengland.com, by calling 0300 123 5000 or following @HighwaysNWest on Twitter. For more information on the project click here.
