M67 closed due to serious incident with police and ambulances at scene - latest updates

The M67 is closed eastbound between J1a and J2 near Manchester this morning. This is due to what is being described as an "ongoing police-led incident".

Police have closed the carriageway at Denton to allow them to work at the scene. The road bridge that carries Edward Street over the M67 is also closed, with police officers and a van in situ.

More police and a number of ambulances can also be seen on the carriageway of the M67. National Highways says that due to the nature of the incident it is not able to advise how long the closure is likely to remain in place.

It has said, however, it has resources in attendance to assist with traffic management. A diversion routes has been put in place.

Road users are advised to follow the hollow triangle diversion symbols on road signs.

An update at 4.49am from traffic monitoring service Inrix said: "M67 Eastbound closed due to police incident from J1A A6017 Stockport Road ( Denton / Ashton-under-lyne ) to St Annes Road ( Denton )."
