M66 LIVE: Five-mile queues with lane shut amid crash - latest updates

Long queues are building on a stretch of the M66 motorway this morning after a crash.

One lane has been closed off on the southbound stretch of the motorway between junction one for Ramsbottom and junction two for Bury. Traffic is currently queuing for around five-miles up to the closure, according to National Highways.

There are delays of around 45 minutes. In a post on X, National Highways said: "1 (of 2) lanes are closed on the #M66 southbound between J1 #Ramsbottom and J2 #Bury due to a collision.

"There is about 5 miles of congestion which is adding about 45 minutes to normal journey times."

According to traffic alert service Inrix, there are still delays on the southbound side of the M66 from J1 to J2.

Congestion is back to the A56 junction with the A682.

All lanes have now been reopened on the M66 southbound, National Highways said.
