LIVE: Main road closed with man hit by Audi and air ambulance on scene - latest updates

A stretch of a main road in Leigh is closed off this morning after a crash.

Atherleigh Way is currently shut in both directions, according to traffic alert service Inrix. It is closed from Kirkhall Lane to Lovers Lane.

Eyewitnesses have reported spotting the air ambulance land nearby near Westbourne Avenue. Police are also on the scene.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said officers responded to reports of a man being hit by an Audi on Atherleigh Way. He has been taken to hospital in an air ambulance with 'potentially life-changing injuries'.

Serious Collision Investigation Unit officers are on the scene, the spokesperson added. The M.E.N has also contacted the North West Ambulance Service for more details.
