M66 delays LIVE updates as drivers face 50-minute queues following A56 crash
Motorists are facing long delays on the M66 near Bury following a crash on the A56. Drivers are being warned to expect queues of up to 50 minutes on the northbound A56 and M66, following a collision this evening (April 24).
National Highways says one lane is currently closed on the northbound A56 between Edenfield and Haslingden, in Lancashire. It's affecting traffic tailing back past junction two of the M66, near Bury.
A spokesperson for National Highways North West posted on X (formerly Twitter): "One lane (of 2) is closed on the #A56 northbound between the #A676 #Edenfield and the #A680 #Haslingden due to a collision. Long delays are building on approach, currently adding at least 50 minutes to journey times from #M66 J2 #Bury."

Inrix says drivers are facing long delays on the northbound side, while traffic is also slow on the opposite carriageway due to onlookers. Further details about the nature of the crash are yet to be confirmed.
Emergency services have been approached for comment.
