M4 updates as two separate crashes shut lanes causing long delays

A crash near a busy M4 junction closed two lanes causing 30-minute delays during the Thursday morning rush hour. There was a spillage and debris on the road at junction 33 Cardiff West and services.

Traffic monitors showed that it happened on the eastbound carriageway and congestion was back to junction 34 Miskin in the Vale of Glamorgan. Join our WhatsApp news community here for the latest breaking news

South Wales Police said: "We are at the scene of a collision on the M4, junction 33 eastbound, Creigiau, Cardiff. The road is is open, however there are significant delays in the Eastbound direction with tailbacks between junction 35, Pencoed and junction 33, Creigiau.

"Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible. Delays are expected in the area." Around 9.30am all lanes re-opened.

Just before 9am, a second M4 accident was reported. One lane was blocked and queueing traffic after an accident on the westbound carriageway from junction 38 Margam to junction 40. Lane two (of two) was blocked but re-opened by 9.15am.
