M4 slip road closed as vehicle on fire causes delays - live updates

Motorists were warned to proceed with care following a vehicle fire on the M4 in Newport. Traffic Wales confirmed the M4 eastbound J27 High Cross off slip was closed due to the incident.

It was also confirmed that emergency services were at scene, as motorists were warned to proceed with care. At around 12.31pm, traffic monitoring service confirmed that road cameras showed that the fire had been put out, but the road remained closed for some time while investigation work took place.

A spokesperson for Gwent Police later confirmed they were called to the scene. They added there had been no reports of injuries. Their statement read: "We received a report of a van on fire towards junction 27 of the M4 at around 12pm on Tuesday 3 September. Officers attended to support with traffic management. No injuries were reported."

After the recovery work, it was confirmed at around 1.58pm by Inrix that the M4 westbound exit slip road was reopened, with recovery work completed and the affected vehicle had been cleared from J27 B4591 Glasllwch Crescent (Highcross).
