M62 car fire LIVE updates as drivers face five-mile queues and two lanes closed

Drivers are being warned to expect delays on the M62 following a car fire. Emergency services are at the scene this morning (September 15).

It follows a fire between junctions 22 at Denshaw and 21 at Milnrow, on the westbound carriageway. Two lanes are currently closed through the area.

Motorists are facing delays of around 40 minutes, with five-mile queues approaching the scene. A spokesperson for National Highways North West posted on X: "The #M62 westbound has 2 lanes (of 3) closed between J22 (#Denshaw) and J21 (#Rochdale) due to a car fire.

"Emergency services are on scene dealing with the incident. There are approx. 40 minute delays with 5 miles of congestion on approach."
