M4 closed due to crash as traffic builds near Newport - live updates

Part of the M4 has been closed following a collision on the motorway near Newport. There is heavy congestion on the road after the eastbound carriage was closed shortly before 11am on Thursday, following an accident between J25A Grove Park and J24 Coldra.

Emergency services are now on the scene. Gwent Police has confirmed that the road is closed and diversions are in place, with congestion expected. Motorists have been advised to avoid the area if possible and find alternative routes for their journey.

All traffic is being temporarily held with traffic queuing , with congestion back to J26 (Malpas Road), according to traffic monitoring system Inrix. Follow live updates below:
