Luke Tuffs: Give it a month and Leatherhead will be unplayable

Luke Tuffs has promised Leatherhead will be “in a better place” in a month’s time after the Tanners lost both their opening Isthmian League South Central Division games this week.

Unlucky to avoid relegation from the Isthmian League Premier Division last season, the Tanners are among the favourites to go straight back up.

However, despite featuring some well-known faces in their opening two squads, including former Cheltenham Town and Gillingham winger Jermaine McGlashan, ex-Crawley Town midfielder Frankie Sutherland and well-travelled forward Elliott Buchanan, the Tanners lost 4-0 at Westfield on Saturday and then 1-0 to South Park at Fetcham Grove on Tuesday night.

But while Tuffs was disappointed by Saturday’s performance, the Leatherhead boss saw signs of improvement midweek but conceded his side needed to be sharper in the final third.

“We did react after Saturday, we reacted really well,” Tuffs said after Tuesday night’s game. “You can play really well and lose, and you can play really badly and win. Against South Park, I think in two-thirds of the pitch we were excellent.

“After Saturday, we had to make some changes and we had to make some changes pretty quickly because Saturday was quite simply unacceptable.

“What we have done in bring in four or five new faces that we thought would bring us energy.

“Obviously when you’ve got that you are on slightly different wavelengths and you could see that.

“We played a South Park side who are well set up with a really good manager and they were difficult to break down.

“This time in a month’s time we will have worked on a lot of things and we will be able to find ways to unlock that but today we didn’t.
