Luke Shaw told to 'copy Kieran Trippier move' and more Manchester United transfer rumours

Luke Shaw has recently regained his place in the starting XI at Manchester United, but could be out of the door in January with BBC pundit Noel Whelan backing the left-back for a move to the North East.

The 27-year-old has played 90 minutes in United's last two fixtures and looks to have taken his spot in the United side back from Tyrell Malacia after the summer signing had claimed his place in Erik ten Hag's defence. However, with the Magpies now backed by the mega-rich Saudi private investment fund, the England left-back could be tempted by a switch.

Shaw is in the final 18 months of his contract at United and with a career which has been stop-start at Old Trafford, he could well be tempted to make a switch. Newcastle currently have Matt Targett and Dan Burn in their ranks as left-back with the latter struggling in an unnatural role at Old Trafford on Sunday.

This has led former Leeds striker to tell Shaw that a move to Newcastle would work for him. Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan said: "It's one of the positions that Erik ten Hag is pondering over. He’s thinking about possibly signing another full-back, he doesn’t know who the best option is.

“I think with the way they did it with Trippier, bringing in that experience and quality – they’ll be happy to repeat that success. It’s down to the manager as well.

"I think if you get him playing under Eddie Howe, he’d become a better player. It’d be exciting, it makes sense – and having that kind of experience is invaluable for a club like Newcastle.”
