Luke Shaw might be spotted in Manchester United training ahead of FC Twente fixture

Manchester United will host open first-team training at Carrington on Tuesday afternoon.

Journalists are invited to watch a segment of training ahead of European fixtures and it's an opportunity to see which players will make the squad for the game on the next day.

Victor Lindelof and Tyrell Malacia returned to training last week - although the latter only joined in the warm-up - and there's an outside chance of Luke Shaw being spotted.

United confirmed on August 13 that Shaw would 'miss the opening games of the Premier League season' due to a calf injury sustained at the start of pre-season and there's been over a month since that announcement, which indicates he should return from the issue soon.

There are different levels of calf strains but muscle fibres can heal in the space of four weeks if a tear isn't serious. The severity of Shaw's problem wasn't revealed by a club source when his injury was confirmed but it wouldn't be a shock to see him present in training on Tuesday.

If Shaw is not training with the main group, he may be spotted by journalists doing light individual work and Erik ten Hag is guaranteed to be asked about him at his press conference.

"He's progressing but not yet ready to be selected. He is progressing well, of course we have a plan in our head when he can be ready," said Ten Hag about Shaw last week.

"But you're always dependent on how the progress will go and you can't think, you can't make a suggestion because there are so many factors, a plan can accelerate or slow down."
