Luke Shaw explains how Manchester United teammates reacted to him playing at centre-half

Luke Shaw reckons it would be "massive" for Manchester United to finally end their trophy hoodoo beneath the famous arch at Wembley on Sunday afternoon (4.30pm).

Without any silverware since 2017 when Jose Mourinho guided them to the Carabao Cup and Europa League double, United are still fighting on four fronts this season. Final opponents Newcastle United are now the only side standing in the way of Carabao Cup glory for Erik ten Hag and his thriving squad.

United conjured up an inspired comeback to overcome Barcelona over two legs in Europe with Shaw and his teammates still celebrating their Thursday night heroics. Not that they needed it, but that result has given the squad an extra boost heading into their first domestic showpiece with Ten Hag at the helm.

Shaw told PA: "For the position we have been in over the past years, and the feeling that we have inside the dressing room, it means everything. It has been such a long time since we have won a trophy.

"People will say it is the Carabao Cup but, for us, it is massive. It is something we have been aiming for a long time; to get that winning feeling back, that feeling of winning trophies."

Addressing his games at centre-back this season, Shaw added: "Everyone was messing about in the changing room saying I was a centre-back. I thought I would just play the one game and that would be it, but when the next game came, we started preparing and he [Ten Hag] names the team, he picked me at centre-back again!
