'Embarrassing' - Luke Shaw makes brutal admission after Manchester United defeat against Liverpool

Luke Shaw has admitted he is 'embarrassed' about Manchester United's performance after losing 7-0 against Liverpool.

After weeks of progress, United visited Anfield riding high on confidence but they were given a reality check instead. Liverpool were leading 1-0 at half-time thanks to Cody Gakpo's goal, but the bulk of the damage was done after the break.

United conceded six goals after half-time and they spectacularly capitulated at the hands of their most fierce rivals.

Erik ten Hag looked furious on the touchline and he made multiple changes to try to stop the rot but Liverpool did not relent.

Shaw endured a difficult afternoon himself and he was the first player to emerge from the dressing room after the game.

"It's hard to explain this. I think the standards where we have been at, it was nowhere near it," Shaw told Viaplay.

"I feel embarrassed for the fans and the people who were watching for us. I can only apologise. It's not going to be easy watching this back. But he [Ten Hag] is going to make us watch it back, and show us what we need to learn from this embarrassment."

United play Real Betis next in the Europa League on Thursday.
