Louie Barry living up to nickname given by Jurgen Klopp as Aston Villa starlet forgets nightmare

Aston Villa youngster Louie Barry has put a nightmare loan spell at Ipswich Town behind him as he continues to impress at League Two side Swindon Town.

The 18-year-old was sent out on loan at the start of the season to gain invaluable experience in the EFL with League One team Ipswich, but he only made two appearances for the Tractor Boys, while injury and the team's poor start to the season meant his spell on Suffolk disappointed and was cut short in January.

After a few weeks at Bodymoor Heath following his return to Villa at the start of January, Barry left on loan for a second time, to promotion-chasing Swindon, who Kaine Kesler - another member of Villa's successful FA Youth Cup winning squad last term - left after enjoying a spell in the first months of the campaign.

While the two promising Villa youngsters moved in opposite directions, each swapping League One and League Two as Kesler moved to League One team MK Dons, Barry himself is in a fine vein of form at the County Ground.

Barry has scored three goals in his last three league appearances for the Robins, including a brace in the 5-0 demolition of Walsall last week.

The teenager's bright start to life at Swindon will fill him with confidence after a difficult first half to the season at Ipswich.

Barry is back on track after exhibiting some excellent form in Villa's youth ranks last term and remarkably, for the first-team too.

Last season, Villa were forced to play their youth team in a third round FA Cup tie against Liverpool due to a coronavirus outbreak that ruled out their entire first-team squad.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp compared Barry to a 'little Jamie Vardy' after he scored in the cup tie at Villa Park.
