Lordswood manager Scott Porter has quit the Southern Counties East Division 1 side after defeat to Lewisham Borough – days after a 9-0 loss to Rochester United
Lordswood Football Club have sought to reassure sponsors and supporters of their ongoing ambition after a woeful run of results led to the manager quitting.
Saturday’s 3-0 loss to Lewisham Borough in the Southern Counties East first division followed on from a 9-0 drubbing at the hands of Medway rivals Rochester United.
Lordswood were relegated last season from the SCEFL Premier Division, and under manager Scott Porter they were looking for an instant return, but life in the lower division hasn’t been easy.
Early-season wins over Welling Town and Tooting Bec made for a positive start but they were beaten by Hollands & Blair in the first qualifying round of the FA Vase, either side of home draws in the league.
Their current poor form started with a 2-0 home loss to Greenwich Borough but they remain just two points outside of the play-off places with 10 league games played..
Lordswood confirmed on Sunday that Porter had “decided to step down” as manager.
The club issued a statement from chairman Ray Broad, which said: “We would like to thank Scott for all his hard work during his short term at the club.
“The board want to reassure our sponsors and supporters that the club remains fully focused on building a strong future both on and off the pitch.
“Our immediate priority is to ensure stability and continuity.
“The search for a new manager is already under way.”
New signings Jack Tickle and Finlay Whitton were brought in ahead of the weekend game against Lewisham and both started, but Lordswood fell behind after 26 minutes before conceding another before the break. The hosts added a third midway through the second half.
Lordswood’s next league match is away to Sheppey Sports this Saturday.
