Livingston WON'T axe artificial pitch as financial reality makes following Kilmarnock's lead impossible

Livingston have revealed their artificial pitch is set to stay as Kilmarnock prepare to rip up their plastic turf.

The Premiership club are poised to revert back to a grass park and move away from their current astroturf playing surface. Livingston are the other top flight club who don't have grass and Hamilton have also been in the top-flight with a non-grass park before their relegation to the Championship in 2021.

Raith Rovers and Airdrie are in the promotion play-off spots in the second tier and also operate on plastic. The surfaces have had plenty of criticism from managers, pundits and players for their role in the top flight but Livingston chief executive Dave Black has revealed that finances mean they must stick with it. He told the Daily Mail: "‘There’s been no conversation about us going back to grass. If anything, the conversation — providing there is no rule change by the SPFL — will more likely be about renewing the current artificial surface when the time comes.

"Of course, in everybody’s world a fantastic, top-end grass pitch would be best. That’s what everybody wants but at our level, and what we are doing as a club, we have a certain finance and fanbase.

"Everyone knows the way we are as a club, the budget here is not amazing. The money is just not there."
