Livingston boss 'delighted' defender asked to subbed off after making return from injury
David Martindale says he was ‘delighted’ that defender Ayo Obileye asked to be subbed on Saturday - because the defender was putting the team ahead of himself.
The former Queen of the South man was mkaing his return from two months out injured and was replaced on 73 minutes by Tom Parkes.
Martindale said: “Big Ayo held his hands up and came off which is a real testament to how honest he is and I was delighted. I’ve thrown him in the deep end a wee bit but I was delighted when he said he was done. It’s very rare that you’ll get a player doing that.
“I spoke to him about it and told him how happy I was. He could have stayed on for his own ego and then maybe picked up an injury or made a mistake because he had nothing left. He put the team first instead of thinking about himself.”
