Livingston boss David Martindale insists there's more to come from his side

David Martindale says there’s more to come from his Livingston side this season – but they’re still finding their feet.

The Lions have taken a win and a draw from their two Championship games so far, as they prepare to welcome Morton to West Lothian on Saturday.

Martindale brought in almost an entirely new squad of players over the summer, but reckons they’re gelling together quickly.

He said: “I’ve got a very good group of players just now, we’re really happy with where we are in terms of the squad, and there’s real competition for places.

“But I think as a group there’s still a lot of growth and development still to come from us.

“It’s a new team, there’s a lot of new players in the building, and we lost a lot of players from last season, so they’re still building relationships all over the park – on and off the park, to be honest.

“But it’s a really positive group and I think there’s more to come from us.

“I’m happy-ish [with the progress]. I think the day you come back and sit in this seat and you’re happy, you’re kidding yourself on.

“I think you’re always going to push, put demands on the players, and you’re always going to want more, which is just the demands of top-level football.

“I am happy with where the group is, but would I be happier with three points against Queen’s Park? Yes.

“I’m fairly happy. I would like to have qualified from the group section of the Premier Sports Cup but, as a group, I think there has been progress made and it’s a really positive group.

“I do think there is a lot more to come from the group.”

Livingston were given a weekend off due to non-involvement in the Premier Sports Cup last-16, with Martindale having previously said he would give his players a break.
