'Ridiculous' pitch invader condemned as he chases down Ronaldo and causes security guard to slip on his backside

A pitch invader who chased down Cristiano Ronaldo in the dying seconds of Portugal's 2-1 win over Scotland has been branded 'ridiculous' as a hapless security guard was left on his heels.

The footbaling icon – much like eternal rival Lionel Messi – has long been the target for rogue supporters when they enter the field of play. And the latest incident likely cost Portugal a chance to get another shot off as Ronaldo was left angry and the poor official suffered a disaster – as he ended up staring at the Estadio da Luz sky rather than apprehending the hyped-up supporter. He was eventually led away after making a beeline for the Portugal idol and commentator Neil McCann hit out.

But the incident didn't cost Portugal as they overturned a 1-0 deficit at the break and it was Ronaldo himself who scored the winner after Bruno Fernandes had levelled for the hosts. Steve Clarke's side have now won only one game in 14 with better displays counting for little as they remain pointless in their Nations League group.
