Liverpool's Darwin Nunez sent off vs Crystal Palace for wild headbutt
Darwin Nunez’s home Premier League debut was certainly not one to remember.
The Uruguayan striker’s first outing in the English top-flight with Liverpool was certainly a good one, as he picked up a goal and an assist after coming off the bench in the 2-2 draw versus Fulham last weekend.
But against Crystal Palace at Anfield on the first edition of Monday Night Football in 2022/23, the former Benfica man had an absolute mare – and it was all his own fault.
Nunez was fairly anonymous in the first half, aside from a mishit shot that hit the post, and in the second half, he well and truly let his frustration get the better of him.
With his side 1-0 down thanks to Wilfried Zaha’s opener from a well-executed counterattack, Nunez was inexplicably sent off for headbutting Palace defender Joachim Andersen.
It was a moment of complete madness from the Liverpool forward and the referee had no choice but to dismiss him from the field of play.
