Group of Manchester United players make plea to club hierarchy over transfers

A group of senior Manchester United players have made a plea to the club’s hierarchy to act in the transfer market and turn around the woeful start to the Premier League season, according to reports.

Manchester United news, exclusives and analysis

Just two games into the new campaign and things feel pretty desperate at Old Trafford after an opening weekend defeat to Brighton at Old Trafford and a 4-0 hammering at Brentford on Saturday.

Despite countless links to players during the transfer window, new manager Erik ten Hag has only welcomed three new signings: Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez.

Reinforcements appear to be needed across the pitch and now a number of the biggest names at Old Trafford are trying to encourage the board into action.

The Mirror reports that a group of senior players including Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw and Bruno Fernandes, have spoken to club officials and made it clear that new arrivals are needed.

Presumably none of those players think that they themselves should be replaced by new signings, but they do believe that not enough has been done in the transfer market to support Ten Hag in his rebuilding job.

United clearly needed improvements after their consistently poor performances last season, and they let the likes of Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic go over the summer, so the squad was trimmed.
