Liverpool legend John Barnes shoots down Mohamed Salah AFCON claims

Liverpool legend John Barnes doesn't believe losing in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations will have a lasting impact on Mohamed Salah.

Salah's Egypt side were beaten by Senegal in the final last Sunday in Cameroon in a penalty shootout after the match ended 0-0.

The 29-year-old returned to action for Liverpool on Thursday night when he came on as a second-half substitute inside Anfield packed with his adoring fans.

Barnes highlighted how losing is just a part of football and that Salah will get over the loss he suffered in the AFCON final.

“Mo Salah will be able to put the AFCON final loss behind him. Egypt did so well to even get to the final and it’s a completely different competition, different team, players and even continent," said Barnes to BonusCodeBets.

"It’ll have no impact whatsoever on his form for Liverpool and vice versa.

“Had Liverpool lost in the Champions League final, that wouldn’t have affected him when he was playing in the AFCON 2019. It’s a different competition and a different match.

“It won’t have an impact on him at all. Yes, he’ll be disappointed at losing but that’s part of football. He’s lost in the past and this is just something he hasn’t won.”
