Liverpool: Klopp now has 'concern' over £220k-a-week star at Anfield

Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk‘s form is a concern for Jurgen Klopp, according to insider Dean Jones.

The £220,000 per-week star hasn’t been at his best this season, but Jones doesn’t think the Dutchman’s best days are necessarily behind him.

It’s been a tough start to the campaign both as a team and on a personal level for the ex-Celtic man, who’s not been able to hit the heights of previous years.

As a result, the Reds have kept just two clean sheets in their seven Premier League games, already conceding nine goals in the process.

Van Dijk did help Liverpool keen a shutout against Rangers during midweek, but he looked shaky against Brighton as Klopp’s side conceded three goals in a league game at Anfield for the first time since February 2021.

He was recently quizzed about his form and admitted that he’s been far from satisfied.

“If we do well I obviously get praise and if we don’t then I don’t, but I still think I need to improve,” he said. “The only way to do it is play the games, learn from the mistakes, don’t listen to the outside world too much, speak to the people close to you.

“We are all human beings, and we all want to do as well as we can and the same goes for me. I know for a fact I can do better – but we all can do better.”

He told GIVEMESPORT: “That’s definitely going to be a concern because they need him playing his best.

“But I don’t think we’ve reached the stage where it’s panic stations and we’re never going see the old version of Van Dijk again.”
