Liverpool FC great makes Erling Haaland prediction for big Man City fixture

Liverpool legend John Barnes has backed Manchester City star Erling Haaland to make a goalscoring return to the Blues' lineup on Sunday when the two teams meet at Anfield.

City have started the season brilliantly and have not lost any of their Premier League or Champions League fixtures to date. Haaland meanwhile has settled into life in Manchester tremendously well.

His 20 goals in just 13 appearances have helped catapult the Blues to second position in the English top flight and secure the club's place in the knockout stages of the elite European competition. Haaland will be hopeful of adding to his tally when he faces Liverpool for second time already this campaign.

The first meeting in the Community Shield did not go to plan for Haaland as the Norwegian failed to score and City lost 3-1 to their rivals. However, having been rested in midweek, Barnes is backing the striker to get on the scoresheet this weekend.

When asked by Bonus Code Bets about whether the 22-year-old will be stopped by the Merseyside club's defence, Barnes responded: "Who knows. He might score, he might not.

"Haaland is a very dangerous player but [Virgil] Van Dijk is a fantastic player. If I went to the bookies and had to put my house on it then I'd say no [Liverpool won't keep him out]. Liverpool need to defend much better than they have."

Barnes was also asked to compare Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola as managers but the Liverpool icon found it difficult to choose between them. "They are both fantastic managers," he added.
