Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp charged by FA over incident in Man City fixture

Jurgen Klopp has been charged by the Football Association for 'improper' behaviour during the incident that saw him shown a red card during Manchester City's defeat to Liverpool.

City faced their old foes in a hotly contested matchup on Sunday which was won by Liverpool by a single goal following Mohamed Salah's excellent strike. It was a feisty affair and emotions bubbled over in the 86th minute when a foul wasn't given after Bernardo Silva hauled down Salah in the 86th minute.

Liverpool boss Klopp was left infuriated by the decision and approached an assistant official before aggressively shouting in his face. Referee Anthony Taylor dismissed the German from the dugout and he has now been charged by the FA.

A statement from the FA read: "Jurgen Klopp has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 following the Premier game between Liverpool FC and Manchester City FC on Sunday [16/10/22].

"It is alleged that the Liverpool FC manager's behaviour during the 86th minute of this game was improper and he has until Friday [21/10/22 to provide a response."

After the game, Klopp admitted his fault for his reaction but continued to question the decision. He said: “Of course, red card, my fault. I went over the top in the moment. I don’t think I was disrespectful to anybody, but when you look at the pictures back, I know myself, at 55 years, the way I look in these moments is already worth a red card – who cares what I say.

“I lost it in that moment, it’s not OK. But I think, a little bit as an excuse, I would like to mention: how can you not whistle that foul How on earth is it possible? I wish I could get an explanation."
