Heavy overnight has caused flooding in parts of Wales on Tuesday morning (December 19). South Wales Police has warned this morning that the Afan Valley road is currently closed in both directions.

It is shut between Pontrhydyfen and Cymmer. The flooding is about half a mile from the turning to Pontryhdyfen. A statement from the force said: "Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible."

Dyfed Powys Police has also warning of flooding on the A487 from LLanon to LLanrhystud in Ceredigion.

The road is currently closed due to flooding. Please avoid the area and find alternative routes for your journey.

Transport for Wales is also warning that services are at a stand between Llanelli and Swansea due to flooding.

Natural Resources Wales has also issued 18 flood alerts across the country.

The Met Office forecast for Wales says that after the rain will slowly ease through the morning, leaving a much brighter afternoon, with the odd shower. The forecast for Tuesday adds: "Becoming breezier and therefore feeling somewhat less mild. Maximum temperature 10 °C."
