LIVE weather updates as urgent 'act now' flood warning issued with more torrential rain forecast

A flood warning is in place in part of Greater Manchester this morning with residents urged to 'act now' as more heavy rain is forecast to fall.

The warning covers the River Irwell at Prestolee and Ringley Bridges in Kearsley. According to the Environment Agency, areas at risk include Riverside Drive, Hamble Croft, Langcliffe Place, Ribblehead Court and Stoneclough Rise.

People living near the water here should 'act now' as 'flooding is expected'. Residents should move vehicles to higher ground, move family and pets to safety, move important items upstairs and monitor the latest flood risk situation.

A flood alert for the area was first issued last night, before it was upgraded to a flood warning in the early hours of this morning. Three other flood alerts remain in place across Greater Manchester, with residents urged to 'be prepared' for flooding in these areas.

The alerts are for the Upper River Irwell catchment with Oldham, Bolton, Rochdale, Haslingden, Ramsbottom and Rawtenstall, the Lower River Irwell catchment also including the areas around the Rivers Irk and Medlock, Wince and Worsley Brooks and their tributaries, the Middle River Mersey catchment including areas near Bramhall, Stockport, Sale, Altrincham and Urmston and the River Bollin catchment, including Knutsford, Wilmslow, Macclesfield and Bollington.

People living near water in these areas should be aware that 'flooding is possible' and should keep an eye on the latest flood updates. The warnings come as a yellow Met Office weather warning remains in place for our region.
