Crash shuts A4232 hours after earlier incident - live updates

There is heavy traffic after a crash on a busy Cardiff road. The A4232 southbound is closed near Culverhouse Cross following the incident that happened after 4pm on Tuesday, July 5.

While the road southbound is currently shut with queuing traffic, there is also congestion on the northbound carriage due to people slowing down to look at the accident. The latest from traffic monitoring system Inrix reads: "A4232 Southbound closed, queueing traffic due to accident from M4 J33 (Cardiff West And Services) to A48 Cowbridge Road (Culver House Cross). Congestion to the M4.

It adds: "Queueing traffic due to people slowing to look at accident on the opposite side on A4232 Northbound from M4 J33 (Cardiff West And Services) to A48 Cowbridge Road (Culver House Cross)."

The accident comes shortly after a crash closed the same road for five hours. The two-vehicle crash near Culverhouse Cross at 8.30am on Tuesday saw the entry slip to the A4232 southbound partially blocked and one lane closed, affecting traffic towards Leckwith, with the road not reopening fully until around 1.30pm.

Emergency services attended the scene for around five hours. Police have confirmed that a 54-year-old woman, who was driving one of the cars involved in that earlier crash, has been taken to hospital, but no further information has been released regarding the nature or seriousness of her injuries.
