Live updates as huge plumes of smoke over Welsh town as fire crews called to industrial estate

Plumes of black smoke can be seen coming from the Abercanaid Industrial Estate in Merthyr Tydfil. Images show that the streets in the area were filled with smoke.

An eyewitness on social media described it "like a black fog" and had to turn around whilst on a walk with his dog, due to the "bad" smell.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service Control Room confirmed that one fire appliance is in attendance, with one water ladder and one water bowser. They were called to the ongoing incident at 5.33pm.
