Teen dies after car hit by falling tree during Storm Éowyn
A teenager has died of his injuries after his car was hit by a falling tree during Storm Éowyn.
The 19-year old was driving on the B743 in Mauchline in East Ayrshire when the incident happened at about 6:45am on Friday (January 24).
Suffering serious injuries, he was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment but sadly died on Saturday, BBC News reported.
The incident occurred just over three hours before a red weather alert came into force across parts of Scotland as Storm Éowyn made contact.
It was described as a 'once in a generation' storm that saw winds of up to 100mph in some places, and left over a hundred thousand people without power.
Sgt Chris McColm of Police Scotland's road policing unit said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died."
He is the second person to die following Friday's storm.
In the Republic of Ireland, 20-year-old Kacper Dudek died after a tree fell on his car in County Donegal.
