LIVE: Street closed by police amid reports of homes being 'evacuated' during ongoing incident - latest updates
Police have taped off a residential road near Timperley this afternoon following an ongoing incident. Homes have reportedly been evacuated following the incident on Mainwood Road.
A number of police vehicles remain at the scene this afternoon, with a large cordon in place. The road has been closed off from Nethercroft Road to Thorley Lane.
Residents on social media have claimed a number of homes have been evacuated. Further details about the nature of the incident have not yet been confirmed by police.
Greater Manchester Police has been approached for more information.

A spokesperson for GMP said: "We were called at 1.10pm to reports of a possible hand grenade being found on Mainwood Road in Timperley.
"EOD attended the location and located the device, which has been confirmed as not viable."
Live traffic maps show how the residential street is taped off in both directions this afternoon, beside the junction with Greystoke Avenue.
Pictures and videos showed a heavy police presence at the scene after being called earlier today.
A number of emergency vehicles including police cars and TAU vans are within the cordon, with officers seen stationed within the scene.
A number of cordons are in place along Mainwood Road this afternoon.
Part of Nethercroft Road has also been taped off with a TAU van blocking the street.
