LIVE: 'Mayhem' as emergency crews close off road near Trafford Centre amid serious incident - latest updates

There is a huge emergency services presence on a main road near the Trafford Centre this evening amid an ongoing serious incident.

Police, paramedics and fire crews have lined Barton Road, near the Barton Swing Bridge, with nearby Peel Green Road taped off.

Pictures from the scene show a heavy emergency services response, with a number of fire engines, police vehicles and ambulances at the scene.

Locals described the situation as 'mayhem' with huge delays in the area. The nature of the incident has not yet been confirmed.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Shortly after 3.45pm this afternoon (Thursday 15 August), four fire engines from Irlam, Eccles, Agecroft and Stretford fire stations were called to reports of a house fire on Barton Road, Eccles.

“Crews arrived quickly and used two hose reels, breathing apparatus and a positive pressure ventilation fan to extinguish the fire.

“Firefighters remain in attendance at this time.”

Peel Green Road, a residential street off Barton Road, is blocked by emergency services.

The area has been taped off amid the incident.

Barton Road is closed off, near to the Barton Swing Bridge this afternoon.

Nearby Peel Green Road has also been taped off by fire crews with police and paramedics also at the scene.

We are awaiting full confirmation on the nature of this incident.

A witness, who saw the emergency services arrive on Barton Road has said: "It looks like [an incident] down Peel Green Road.

"It's causing mayhem. It’s closed off one way so all traffic from the Trafford Centre is backed up."
