LIVE: Road shut after dramatic crash between car and double-decker bus

A main road in Heywood is shut this afternoon with emergency services on the scene after a crash involving a car and a double deck bus.

Church Street in the town centre is currently closed due to the smash with queues of traffic building.

The traffic alert service Inrix says: “A6046 Church Street Southbound blocked, queueing traffic due to obstruction on the road from A58 York Street to Hartley Street.”

The Manchester Evening News has contacted Greater Manchester Police and the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue service for more information.

A spokesperson from Greater Manchester Police has said there were no serious injuries reported in the collision.

Traffic in Heywood has been described as ‘crazy’ after a crash closed Church Street.

One witness said: “Crazy how bad the traffic today is just losing that portion of the road … and it’s not even rush hour.”

Heavy traffic is building following the crash on Church Street, according to the travel alert service Inrix.

Inrix says: “A6046 Church Street in both directions blocked, heavy traffic due to obstruction on the road from A58 York Street to Hartley Street.”

Witnesses at the scene say traffic is being diverted down Hornby Street/Pine Street and onto Hind Hill Street.
