LIVE: Police issue statement after cordoning off Manchester road - updates

Police have taped off a road in south Manchester this afternoon following a serious incident that has left a man with serious injuries.

Forensic investigators are on Odette Road in Gorton on Thursday (May 1) as officers scour the scene.

A section of the road is cordoned off, with reports of blood visible on the porch of a property.

CSI and a heavy police presence have been spotted in the area as detectives carry out work.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 11.15am this morning (Thursday 1 May 2025), we were called to reports of a disturbance on Odette Street in Gorton, north Manchester.

"Officers attended the scene and arrested two people – a man and a woman – on suspicion of criminal damage, possession of offensive weapon and common assault.

"They both remain in custody for questioning.

"A man in his 20s has been taken to hospital with injuries that are described as serious but no life-threatening. He remains in hospital.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact us on 101, quoting log 1289 of 01/05/2025. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
