LIVE: People warned 'keep windows shut' as firefighters descend on Greater Manchester street - latest updates

Neighbours have been urged to keep their windows and doors shut following a suspected chemical leak.

Emergency services are in attendance on Wellington Road in Greenfield, Saddleworth, this afternoon (July 27).

A cordon is in place on Wellington Road, with a number of surrounding streets also closed off.

Witnesses reported seeing 'smoke' emerge from the building this morning.

Multiple fire engines are in attendance.

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Just after 10am on Sunday, July 27, fire crews were called to reports of smoke coming from an industrial building on Wellington Road, Greenfield.

"Fire engines from Oldham, Stalybridge and Mossley stations were quickly mobilised to the scene and crews remain in attendance alongside other emergency services.

"Firefighters wearing hazmat suits and breathing apparatus have entered the building and are working to determine the cause of the smoke.

"Residents nearby are advised to keep their windows and doors closed as a precaution. Road closures are also in place."

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson added: "We are supporting colleagues in the fire service in relation to a hazmat incident at a commercial premises on Wellington Road in Greenfield this morning.

"Investigators are working to determine the cause of the incident. There have been no reported injuries and everyone at the business premises has been accounted for.

"A cordon is in place whilst emergency services conduct their investigation."
