LIVE: Murder investigation launched after man dies with huge cordon in place - updates

A murder investigation has been launched in Salford tonight after a man was killed. Seedley Road in Pendleton is cordoned off, with police cars currently at the scene.

GMP have tonight said a murder probe has been launched. A spokesman said: Officers received a call at approximately 4pm to reports of an ongoing disturbance on Seedley Road in Salford this evening, Friday 5 May 2023.

"On attendance, a man was found injured and was taken to hospital via colleagues with NWAS. He was sadly pronounced deceased at 5.10pm.

"A 52-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody for questioning as investigations into the incident continue. There is currently a scene in place from Fitzwarren Street to Seedley Road."

Pictures from the scene show a stretch of road cordoned off near a patch of wasteland to the rear of Tesco and the St James's House office block. Three police cars can be seen guarding the area. Forensic officers have also been spotted at the scene.

Bus company Stagecoach tweeted: "Due to a Police incident on Seedley Road, services are diverted in both directions via Fitzwarren Street, Liverpool Street and Langworthy Road. Stops on Fitzwarren Street and Seedley Road will not be served."
