LIVE: Motorway shut after vehicle fire causes plumes of smoke to fill carriageway - latest updates

All traffic is stopped on the M6 motorway as emergency services rush to a lorry fire.

The motorway has been shut and traffic is building because of the fire on the M6 heading northbound at junction 22 for the A49 Winwick Link Road (Newton Le Willows).

Images from the scene show smoke billowing around the carriageway. Numerous emergency service vehicles can be seen surrounding the fire to deal with the incident.
