LIVE: Heavy traffic on M60 following smash - latest updates amid 40-minute delays

Queues are building on a major Greater Manchester motorway this afternoon following a crash.

Three lanes closed due to the accident on the M60 anticlockwise from J16 A666 Manchester Road (Pendlebury) to J15 M61 J1 (Swinton Interchange).

Traffic is building from Salford to Bury, with congestion stretching to J17 (Prestwich / Whitefield). Delays are currently at around 40 minutes, according to National Highways.

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for more information.

All lanes have now been reopened. However, online traffic reporting system Inrix is reporting long delays and heavy traffic, with congestion almost stretching to J17 Prestwich / Whitefield.

Lanes two, three, and four (of four) are closed to traffic currently, leaving only lane one for vehicles to use.
