LIVE: Inquest into Jeremy Kyle show guest Steve Dymond - latest updates

An inquest into the death of a man who died of an overdose after appearing on ITV's Jeremy Kyle show is set to continue today (September 4). Steve Dymond, from Portsmouth, is thought to have taken his own life just seven days after filming for the ITV programme back in May 2019.

When appearing on the show, Steve had taken a lie detector test after being accused of cheating on his ex-fiancée, Jane Callaghan.

A full inquest into the circumstances surrounding his death is now being held at Winchester Coroner's Court, more than five years after the episode was recorded.

Yesterday, the court heard that Mr Dymond died at his home of a combination of morphine overdose and left ventricular hypertrophy in his heart. It heard that Mr Dymond told his son, Carl Woolley, that Mr Kyle had “egged on” the audience to “boo him”.

He said his father told him that the “lie detector had cast him as a liar, he said to me he wasn’t lying. He was telling the truth, he was not lying… and asking why it said he had lied”. Representatives for Mr Kyle said he denies asking the crowd to boo Mr Dymond.

The inquest also heard that Mr Dymond said the programme makers “are responsible for what happens now” in his final text message to his former partner.
