LIVE: Major road shut after serious police incident with large cordon in place - updates

A major road has been shut both ways by police after a serious incident today.

Manchester Road East, in Little Hulton, has been closed in both directions by emergency services. Pictures show a major police cordon in place with a number of officers at the scene.

Witnesses have said a police helicopter is also in attendance with officers stood guard outside a building. They report it is due to a serious incident, the nature of which has not been confirmed at this time.

Travel service Inrix has said: "A6 Manchester Road East in both directions closed, heavy traffic due to police incident from Grayson Road to Bridgewater Street."

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for a comment.
