LIVE: Major police presence as forensic tent put up in town centre - latest updates

There is a major police presence in Bury town centre this afternoon - with police and forensic officers at the scene.

Silver Street has been taped off by officers from Greater Manchester Police for a number of hours, according to residents.

Pictures and footage from the scene show a cordon guarded by police, with a blue forensic tent inside the tape.

The nature of the incident has not yet been confirmed. GMP have been approached for more information.

Witnesses have described seeing scores of police officers and people in 'white suits' combing the scene on Saturday morning (July 8).
