LIVE: Major fire breaks out near Oldham Mumps as smoke billows over town centre - updates

Smoke is billowing above Oldham town centre after a fire broke out near Oldham Mumps.

Crews are in attendance on Bell Street this morning (September 24).

A fire broke out at around 3am today, with six fire engines attending the scene.

Firefighters are continuing to work at the scene this morning, with a building being hosed down following the blaze.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 3am on Wednesday, September 24, fire crews were called to reports of a fire at an industrial building on Bell Street, Oldham.

“Six fire engines from stations across Oldham and Rochdale, as well as the aerial ladder from Stretford, quickly attended the incident. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels to extinguish the fire.

“Fire crews remain at the scene making the area safe.”

The blaze broke out on Mumps Business Park earlier this morning.

It's understood workers have been unable to access other buildings on the site this morning while crews work at the scene.
