LIVE: Major emergency service response as police respond to reports of 'explosion' in Wigan

There is a major emergency service response in Wigan this afternoon following an incident at a house.

The Manchester Evening News understands police are responding to reports of an explosion at a property on Park Road in the Billinge area of the town.

Officers from GMP, paramedics and bomb disposal teams are believed to have been called to the scene.

The details surrounding the ongoing incident remain vague, but it's understood a cordon is in place on Park Road. It's believed one person has been injured.

In a statement, GMP said: "Emergency services are currently responding to an incident within a house on Park Road in the Billinge area of Wigan.

"At this stage, it is believed one person has been injured upon opening a domestic item. A cordon is in place around the property. Local residents will be made aware if they need to take any further action."
