LIVE: Main road closed in both directions amid 'serious police incident' - latest updates

A main road in Hyde has been closed off in both directions this afternoon amid a 'serious police incident'.

Emergency services are at the scene of the incident on the A57 Manchester Road near to Hyde town centre this afternoon. Details about the incident have not yet been confirmed.

The road is blocked currently in both directions, with traffic being diverted. Bus routes are also facing delays and are being suspended due to the ongoing closure.

Bus operator Stagecoach posted: "We regret to inform our intending passengers that due to an ongoing serious police incident on Manchester Rd our 201 services will be terminating at Crown Point in Denton. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes our passengers."

Pictures from the scene this evening show a heavy police presence in attendance. A door has also been taken off an Audi vehicle at the scene.

The road remains taped off in both directions.

The closure is in place from the White Gates Inn to Great Norbury Street.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At 4pm on Monday (October 28) one fire engine from Gorton fire station plus the technical response unit from Ashton fire station attended a crash involving two cars on Manchester Road, Hyde.

“Firefighters rescued one person using specialist cutting equipment and made the scene safe alongside colleagues from Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service. Crews were in attendance for around 50 minutes.”

Large delays remain in the area due to the serious collision.

Manchester Road remains closed off in both directions.

It is understood a collision between two cars occured this afternoon.
