LIVE: Cordon in place and road closed after car hits bus stop and building

A huge police cordon is in place on a busy south Manchester road this evening (Monday, June 9) after a car crashed into a bus stop and building.

Police, paramedics and firefighters are in attendance on Stockport Road and Slade Lane in the Longsight area this evening, with part of the road closed off and a cordon in place.

Emergency services were first called to the incident at around 8.30pm.

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "A spokesperson said: “At around 8:30pm this evening (Monday, 9th June), firefighters were called to reports of a crash on Stockport Road in Longsight.

“Three fire engines from Gorton and Ashton fire stations quickly arrived at the scene, where a car had crashed into a bus stop and a commercial building.

“Crews remain in attendance.”

A white evidence screen has been put up by the fire service on Slade Lane this evening.

A large road closure is in place with emergency services continuing to respond to the incident.

Witnesses have tonight claimed to have seen at least one casualty being treated on the ground at the scene by responding paramedics.

Further details have not yet been confirmed.

A picture taken from the scene shows a car in the middle of a large cordon, which is in place on Slade Lane, Stockport Road and also stretching over the Slade Lane Community Garden amid investigations.

The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service has said they were responding to reports of a collision this evening.

A car is said to have hit a bus stop before then ploughing into a nearby building.
