Live M62 traffic updates tonight as air ambulance called to 'serious' crash and motorway closed
The M62 is closed in Greater Manchester due to a 'serious' crash and fire tonight (Sunday, March 2 into Monday, March 3). The crash has taken place on the westbound carriageway at Junction 19 (Middleton Road) near Heywood - with the motorway shut to traffic as a result.
The incident and closure were first reported at around 11.45pm on Sunday. Emergency services including the air ambulance have been at the scene and the closure is expected to remain in place throughout the early hours of Monday - with a traffic diversion route now in place.
A National Highways spokesperson said: "Police have requested a closure westbound between J20 and J19 so they can carry out investigations following a serious collision at J19.
"The serious collision and subsequent vehicle fire occurred between the exit and entry slips of J19 westbound. National Highways traffic officers are providing assistance with road closures."
